Real Estate Fraud Settlement

Our client had an oral agreement with his friend to get a home loan so they could both own and live on a property that had two separate living units.  The defendant convinced our client to not be listed on the loan because of a low credit score.  Our client agreed and therefore was also not listed as a co-owner on the deed.  Our client paid half the mortgage for several years and even contributed significant funds to rehabbing the property.  After a few disputes that soured the friendship, the defendant tried to evict our client by claiming he was only a tenant.  After litigating the case in the Los Angeles Superior Court for a couple years, and after getting critical admissions out of the defendant during his deposition, the case settled with our client purchasing the home outright for a couple hundred thousand dollars below market value.
